Probably the most popular neighborhood in the city, Ipanema has it all. Beach, clubs, bars, markets, and all of them just a little more sophisticated than the ones in the famous neighborhood Copacabana. We spotted some places for you that are definitely worth visiting, here are the best 6 bars to visit in Ipanema.
Canastra
If you are looking for a nice place to go during the week, this is where you should end up. On Tuesdays it is crowded with hundreds of people on the streets drinking a beer. Perfect street party without music, a typical get together Carioca style. On other days it is less crowded and it is possible to enjoy the place a bit more. Good wine and nice food, French style (since the owners are French), all in a pleasant environment. An authentic place where there is always somebody interested in a conversation or toast! From the best 6 bars in Ipanema, this is our favorite.

Belmonte
One of the so-called botecos in Rio de Janeiro, a chain with locations in all popular neighborhoods of the city. The one in Ipanema is located at the square of General Osório and the perfect place for an after beach drink and snack. The traditional pastel is one of the favorites and combined with a caipirinha you’ll get a perfect Brazilian culinaire experience. In the evening it turns in meeting point for people to start off their night out, especially on Friday and Saturday.
Address: Rua Teixeira de Melo, 53 B map.
Opening hours: Mo-Su 11am-2am.
Barzin
The most diverse of the five locations on this list. It opens at 12pm, and serves lunch, drinks, snacks, dinner and more. At night most of the days there is live music and in the weekends from around 10/11pm a night club with different programming between bands and DJ’s. A nice alternative to mingle with the local crowd that likes the low profile street style of Rio de Janeiro but is a bit more sophisticated. Given the location expect quite some foreigners at this place.
Address: Rua Vinícius de Moraes, 75 map.
Opening hours: Mo-Thu, Su 12pm-12am, Fri-Sa 12pm-2am.
Astor
One of the high-end bars in Ipanema. The location is great, just next to the beach, and they have a long list of special drinks. The bar opened in 2010, after having huge success in São Paulo. Especially in the weekends this place is extremely popular, from Friday until Sunday it opens for lunch as well. During the week Astor opens its doors only from 6pm. A place to relax, hang around with your friends and enjoy the view. Not cheap, but it is a great place to start your night before hitting one of the parties or clubs.
Address: Avenida Vieira Souto, 110 map.
Opening hours: Mo-We 6pm-1am, Thu 6pm-2am, Fri 1pm-3am, Sa 12pm-3am, Su 12pm-10pm.
Baretto-Londra
Another option is the more high class bar Baretto-Londra, that is located in Fasano, one of the most expensive hotels in the city. Normally they are closed on Thursdays and Sundays, and the rest of the week it is a place to enjoy delicious drinks and meet interesting people. On Wednesdays they have a night dedicated to the popular Brazilian music, and the rest of the week is filled with DJ’s. Check out the website to be sure of the schedule.

Empório
Last but not least in this list of the best 6 bars in Ipanema, is a place to go for the die hards. For those who don’t want to stop at 1 or 2am when all the bars close. This is where you go when you want a place that is anything but pretentious and you just want to dance and drink. The music is more rock orientated, with classics flying around the bar. Its crowd is very diverse, from alternative to fancy, since this is the place where everybody goes when there is no other option left. Don’t get there to early and to sober, because then it can be a bit of a disappointment.
Address: Rua Maria Quitéria, 37 map.
Opening hours: Mo-Sa 6pm-5:30am, Su 9:30pm-5:30am.
